A species of finch in the honeycreeper family native to the Hawiiaan Islands, the bright red feathers of the Apapane were once used to make the cloaks of Hawaiian Kings. This small bird feeds on the nectar of flowers and helps pollinate the forests of Hawaii by moving from tree to tree with pollen dust on its bill. |
