The Nene is the official Hawaiian state bird. This goose is endangered and protected by state law. It evolved from the Canadian Goose which migrated to Hawaii 500,000 years ago. A medium sized goose, the Nene is a victim of introduced predators such as the mongoose,the wild pig and cats. |
