Did you know? The indigenous Pa'u 'o Hi'iaka or Gown of the goddess Hi'iaka. The name of this plant comes from the Hawaiian legend where the Volcano goddess Pele took her baby sister to the beach and left her lying in the sun while she went surfing. The sun beat down on Hi'iaka and this plant began to cover her up to protect her from the heat and so it became known as the gown of Hi'iaka.
